Oestrogens and postprandial lipid metabolism.

چکیده
Introduction Oestrogens protect against coronary artery disease (CAD) [l-31. An estimated 2540% of this protective effect can be attributed to changes in fasting plasma lipids [4]. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentrations are reduced [5,6] as the result of enhanced clearance of atherogenic LDL particles by upregulated LDL receptors [7,8]. The production of highdensity lipoprotein (HDL) particles, the major lipid factor in women that is associated with protection against CAD [4], is increased [9]. Furthermore the oxidizability of LDL particles is reduced [lo]. Beneficial non-lipid effects are a direct relaxing effect on the vessel wall [ 1 1 1 and the beneficial promotion of angiogenesis [ 121 in the repair of damage to the endothelium. We hypothesized that oestrogens can also improve postprandial lipid metabolism. This could be important since humans are in the postprandial state during most of their lives.

Oestrogens as antioxidant cardioprotectants.
Introduction T h e potential importance of oestrogens as antioxidant cardioprotectants is currently attracting considerable attention. Oestrogen is recognized to have a protective effect against coronary heart disease and its antioxidant action could contribute to the cardiovascular benefits observed on oestrogen administration in postmenopausal women [ 1,2]. This antioxidant-mediated cardiopro...
متن کاملExercise and Dietary-Mediated Reductions in Postprandial Lipemia
Postprandial hyperlipemia produces long-term derangements in lipid/lipoprotein metabolism, vascular endothelial dysfunction, hypercoagulability, and sympathetic hyperactivity which are strongly linked to atherogenesis. The purpose of this review is to (1) provide a qualitative analysis of the available literature examining the dysregulation of postprandial lipid metabolism in the presence of ob...
متن کاملThe Effect of Tofogliflozin Treatment on Postprandial Glucose and Lipid Metabolism in Japanese Men With Type 2 Diabetes: A Pilot Study
BACKGROUND Postprandial hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia are highly related to the development of atherosclerosis. Sodium/glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have attracted attention as a new class of anti-diabetic agents for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. We investigated the effect of tofogliflozin on postprandial glucose and lipid metabolism in Japanese male patients with type 2 dia...
متن کاملPostprandial hyperlipidemia, endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular risk: focus on incretins
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is only partially reduced by intensive glycemic control. Diabetic dyslipidemia is suggested to be an additional important contributor to CVD risk in T2DM. Multiple lipid lowering medications effectively reduce fasting LDL cholesterol and triglycerides concentrations and several of them routinely reduce CVD risk. However, in contemporar...
متن کاملEffects of variations in the APOA1/C3/A4/A5 gene cluster on different parameters of postprandial lipid metabolism in healthy young men.
The APOA1/C3/A4/A5 gene cluster encodes important regulators of fasting lipids, but the majority of lipid metabolism takes place in the postprandial state and knowledge about gene regulation in this state is scarce. With the aim of characterizing possible regulators of lipid metabolism, we studied the effects of nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) during postprandial lipid metabolism. E...
